This is where our story begins. A story tied to the end of the Second World War, to peace and to that magical and visionary island that has been a source of inspiration for artists, writers and poets from all over the world.

The first character in our story is the young Pietro Capuano, heir to a family of Neapolitan jewelers; Pietro was nicknamed Chantecler for his eccentric and irreverent personality, after the rooster in the novel of that name by Edmond Rostand. ​

The bell of peace

It was 1944 when Pietro Capuano had the idea of making a bronze bell to give to President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, as a lucky charm for the end of the war. The inspiration came from the Capri legend of San Michele, in which a young shepherd finds his lost sheep thanks to the tinkling of a bell given to him by the Saint. Since then, the bell has become a talisman recognized as a symbol of peace and good fortune.

It was 1950 when Pietro Capuano, along with his friend Salvatore Aprea, founded the Chantecler brand and opened a jewelry shop that became an instant hit with the international jet set. The masterpieces that emerged from the two men's creativity have enchanted actresses, princesses and aristocrats from all over the world, from Jacqueline Kennedy and Audrey Hepburn to Ingrid Bergman Rossellini.​

    La Piazzetta, Capri. This is where our story begins.Pietro Capuano has the idea of making a bronze bell for President Franklin Delano Roosevelt as a good luck charm for the end of the war.

    The first Campanella jewel is created, dedicated to a special woman and dear friend, Edda Ciano.

  3. 1950

    Along with his friend Salvatore Aprea, Pietro founds the Chantecler brand and opens a jewelry shop that immediately becomes a must-visit destination for the stars of the international jet set.

  4. 1982

    Salvatore Aprea takes over the company.

  5. 1994

    Salvatore Aprea's children, Maria Elena, Costanza and Gabriele, along with his wife Teresa, begin their own journey in Chantecler.

  6. 2000

    The first Chantecler boutique opens in Tokyo.

  7. 2003

    The first Chantecler boutique opens in Milan and the headquarters are moved from Capri to Marcianise.

  8. 2010

    The headquarters moves to Milan and production begins in Valenza Po.

  9. 2021

    New premises in Valenza Po.

  10. Future

    A family. A tradition. The awareness of a legacy built on savoir-faire, dreams, freedom and vision.

Today Chantecler maintains the adaptability and meticulous attention to detail that traditionally distinguish Italian family businesses. Gabriele, along with his wife Teresa and sisters Maria Elena and Costanza Aprea, Salvatore's heirs, they added that managerial approach typical of international luxury groups.

Where we are.

Our origins are in Capri, where our first shop is located, but our heart beats all over the world.
Chantecler's headquarters is now in Milan, while the production centre is in Valenza Po, an area of goldsmiths known around the world for its manufacturing excellence. ​​
